MAKE SURE YOU HAVE ANY REQUIRED VACCINATIONS

TAKE EXTRA COVID PRECAUTIONS BETWEEN NOW AND ARRIVAL IN SHARM

Wear a mask, avoid crowded settings, minimize public contact.

TEST FOR COVID BEFORE YOU LEAVE

Self test is fine.  Don’t fly if positive.  Contact leaders immediately.

WEATHER/CLIMATE IN DUBAI

The average temperature in the daytime is 25C/77F, at night the average is  22C/72F (thought it could get as low as 15C/60F).  The sun will rise about 6 am and set around 5 pm.  It is not likely to rain, and not likely to rain a lot if it does rain.  The sea temperature is 26C/79F.

DRESSING FOR THE COP

Please wear casual, but nice, clothes when you are at the COP.  We will each get a SAL t-shirt, but you won’t want to wear it every day.  No tank tops, no sleeveless tops.  Long pants or long skirts.  No shorts, no short pants.  No low-cut necklines.

CHECKLIST OF THINGS TO BRING

Below are some of the things we all should consider bringing to Dubai.  We realize all of these things are not available to everyone.  If there are additions you would make, please message Diane.

Documents/cards:
* Flight itinerary
* Passport and visa
* Printout of acknowledgement letter from UN (if you have this)
* Photocopy of passport and visa, stored separately
* Copy of Itinerary, flight information
* Health insurance card and travel medicine proof
* Vaccination card (proof of vaccination for yellow fever and polio is required for some travelers, check your country)
* Credit card
* Extra cash

Health Related:
* Medications (need letter from doctor for prescriptions, see below*)
* N-95 mask for travel
* Special need items that might not be available there
* Activated charcoal or something similar for an upset stomach

Clothing:
* Hat
* Extra SAL t-shirts
* Swimsuit and cover up
* Comfortable shoes for walking
* Something nicer than usual to wear to any special occasions
* (no shorts, short pants, sleeveless or low cut tops)

Miscellaneous:
* UAE power adapter plug, type G (3 rectangular pins in a triangular pattern)
* Cell phone or tablet with charger and battery
* Insect repellant
* Sunscreen
* Sunglasses
* SAL tote bag if you have one
* Water bottle to refill.  We will have filtered water at the hotel and in the Green Zone, if you want to take more precautions, bring what you would use

WHAT NOT TO BRING

Because we talk about ending oppression in our literature, we recommend that you not carry any SAL literature with you to Dubai.  It may cause you to be held up at customs.
Do not carry more than $$$.

ARRIVAL INTO DUBAI

We will try to have someone at the airport to meet each of your flights and help you get oriented.  (If possible, we will have someone that speaks your language.) We will be asking for those arriving early to volunteer to help us with that.  But many of you are arriving in the middle of the night, and we are not sure we can meet each flight.  But if a SAL delegate is not there, the hotel will send a taxi to meet you.  We will send you information soon about how you will meet them.
If you can't find anyone at the airport, and don't have information about what to do, contact Diane on SIgnal.

SAL IN DUBAI

LOOK OVER SCHEDULE AGAIN

There have been changes.  Please tell me if I have booked you too heavily or doing two things at the same time.

UNASSIGNED TIMES

Here are some options for what you might want to do during your unscheduled times between 10 am and 6 pm.  Unscheduled times are not “off” hours.  There is still a lot that must be done, it’s just not scheduled.
1. Do your other assigned work as listed on the Jobs document.
2. See if the event(s) happening that day needs extra help.
3. Go meet people, learn about their work, talk about SAL and UER, invite people to our events as it makes sense.
4. Volunteer to join a listening project.
5. Consider organizing a listening circle for a group or on a topic.
6. Go to an event by another group as a way to meet people and share our ideas.
7. Have a session.  See session groupings for each day to see who is free during different time blocks (not set up yet).  Please have at least one half hour each way session each day.  The time periods are between 10 am and 1 pm, and between 2 and 5 pm.

TALKING ABOUT SAL AND UER

Practice giving a 1 minute, 2 minute, and 3 minute talk about Sustaining All Life and United to End Racsim.  Explain what we do, why our work is important, why we are at the COP.  Use "Talking Points" to practice and prepare.

YOUR JOB AT THE COP

Make sure you know what your job is during the week of the COP (link).  Please contact your job partner(s) before arriving in Sharm if possible, to talk about how you will do the job together. There will be a blank week-long schedules for you to write down your schedule on.

PLEASE BE SURE YOU HAVE READ ALL THE DOCUMENTS ON THIS PAGE.  WE UPDATE THEM REGULARLY SO CHECK THE DATE.
