We Need This Liberating Tool

I crossed paths with RCers in 2001 in Durban, South Africa, during the United Nations World Conference against Racism and Xenophobia. I was amazed at the transformation, the revolution, I felt inside after attending one of the RC workshops.

After experiencing listening exchanges for the first time, I could not keep what I felt to myself, knowing that my country and people needed such liberating theory. On my return to Nigeria, I wrote to the RC International Reference Person [Tim Jackins], thanking him for making RC widely available and saying I would love it to be introduced to my people in Nigeria.

My request was granted, and in February 2002 the then Regional Reference Person for Africa visited Nigeria for an inaugural workshop. That has since given rise to more than thirty-four RC Communities across Nigeria and additional Communities across West Africa—for a total of fifty-four Communities with participants from all races and backgrounds.

My RC Region of Nigeria and West Africa needs this liberating tool. We need it to regain our full intelligence, to be in good relationship with every human being, and to know that everyone is good.

We do not have any human enemies but rather undischarged hurts. Hurts from oppression and other mistreatment make people behave in irrational ways. RC teaches us to love and to not judge or condemn anyone—we are all good and intelligent. Re-evaluation Counseling is simply revolutionary.

With profound appreciation,

Chioma Okonkwo
