Choosing the Key Issue
In every situation there are many issues that need to be understood and have policies developed about and acted on. There are always so many issues before groups that to try to deal with all of them becomes too confusing and leads to ineffectiveness.
A central decision for a leader is to determine what is the “key issue” in a given situation. By “key issue” we mean the issue which, if raised clearly before the people involved and then acted upon, will force the group to deal with all the other issues as part of the “key issue” being addressed.
Choosing and raising such a key issue for the people one is leading is decisive in achieving unity in action and is a requirement for effective work.
