Websites, Videos, and Articles Explaining Climate Change

NASA: Climate Science, How Do We Know? This NASA website is an excellent resource for both basic and more detailed information that has many videos and graphics on different aspects of climate change.

2% More, If humanity invests just an extra 2% of Global GDP in developing eco-friendly technologies and infrastructure every year, this would be enough to prevent catastrophic climate change, while also creating lots of new jobs and economic opportunities.

IPCC Report 2022 and IPCC Report 2021 Key reports from the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a UN body of volunteer scientists, whose work forms the basis for UN policy on climate change.

Emissions Gap Report, October 2022  "The Closing Window: Climate Crisis calls for rapid transformation of societies." There is no credible pathway to 1.5C in place.

IPCC Interactive Atlas allows for a flexible spatial and temporal analysis of both data-driven climate change information and assessment findings.

Climate Change 101 with Bill Nye the Science Guy is a 4-minute video that explains global warming and its effects.

Climate Science: What you Need to Know is a 6-minute video making the case for human-created climate change, explaining the science of how greenhouse gases create global warming and its effects seen in rising sea levels, ocean life, and more.

A Timeline of Earth's Average Temperature is one giant (humorous) graphic showing the increase in average global temperature from 20,000 BCE to the present day.

Global Cities at Risk from Sea-Level Rise has short videos that show what flooding would look like in different cities around the world if average temperatures increased 4 degrees Celsius versus 2 degrees.

Solutions to Climate Change

Climate Change 2022: Mitigation of Climate Change, a 13 minute video summarizing the IPCC 2022 report on climate change mitigation.

Greta Thunberg and George Monbiot, a short video on the importance of Natural Climate Solutions.

How to Cut U.S. Emissions Faster? (New York Times, February 2019). This is an interactive graphic showing how policies that are already used by other governments could cut US greenhouse gas emissions drastically.

The Solutions Project is a U.S.-based NGO that works for 100% clean energy by providing research, visuals, and grants.

Ten Solutions for Climate Change talks about a mix of individual actions and policies: alternatives to fossil fuels, infrastructure upgrades, shorter commutes, reducing consumption, energy efficiency, eating lower on the food chain, unplugging electrical devices, and more.

Drawdown: 100 Solutions to Reverse Global Warming. Based on the 2017 book Drawdown, this list of 100 policies, practices, and individual actions is divided into categories by electricity generation, food, women and girls, buildings and cities, land use, transportation, and materials.

Resources to Learn More about Climate Change

The Impacts of Climate Change at 1.5C, 2C and Beyond. This interactive graphic shows the effects of 1.5 degrees Celsius warming versus 2 degrees Celsius on different parts of the world as well as on specific areas such as oceans, ice, temperatures, rainfall, storms, flooding, crops, wildlife environments, GDP, and public health.

Climate Interactive is a website that provides online interactive tools to see the effects of climate change and policy solutions, as well as videos.

Carbon Brief--Carbon Countdown is a UK-based website with a daily briefing and collection of articles on climate science, climate policy, and energy policy. Lots of clear graphics and easy-to-follow explanations.

Climate Justice/Environmental Racism Resources

Farmworkers and Climate Change describes how climate change, along with pesticides, makes for unbearable conditions for farmworkers.

The Equitable and Just Climate Platform advances the goals of economic, racial, climate, and environmental justice to improve the public health and well-being of all communities, while tackling the climate crisis. video

11 Young Climate Justice Activists You Need to Pay Attention To  Young Indigenous and people of the global majority who are doing great climate justice activism. 

The People's Demands for Climate Justice excellent framing of demands for climate justice by a strong coalition of groups.

Poor People's Campaign, 50 year report. Produced in conjunction with the 2018 Poor People’s Campaign: A National Call for Moral Revival, this report presents data about the impact of racism, poverty, militarism, and ecological devastation on poor and working class people and people of the global majority, and calls for transformative action.

Food Security. This graphic and article discuss the impact of climate change on hunger and food security around the world.

Our Power Film/Black Water Mesa Coalition. This 8-minute video discusses the work of the Black Water Mesa Coalition in fighting for a just transition to clean energy on Navajo Nation land, with partners from around the country in the Climate Justice Alliance.

Movement Generation, Transition Is Inevitable, Justice Is Not. This website outlines a set of principles for what they call a “Just Recovery” from climate-caused disasters that are based on working for justice, rights, self-governance, and ecological restoration.

Environmental Racism Explained. This 3-minute video describes how environmental racism targets communities of the global majority for polluting industries, hazardous waste, and lack of access to clean air and water. It looks at Flint and Detroit, Michigan, and other places as examples.

Environmental Justice, Explained. This 3-minute video explains how communities of the global majority and poor people are segregated and then targeted for environmental contamination, in different neighborhoods within cities and also globally.

Environmental Justice Atlas is an impressive website that has a map of the world where you can choose different places that are the sites of struggle over environmental issues. Each site has extensive information about the details of the conflict, with citations for further information.

Why the IPCC Report is so Scary is a 10-minute video about the 2018 Special Report on Global Warming of 1.5°C issued by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), the United Nations body that is the internationally recognized authority on climate change. The report talks about the catastrophic consequences of the difference between a global average temperature increase of 1.5°C versus 2°C.

Ah'ah Laot: People of the Sea is a 7-minute video about the impact of climate change on the people of Tigtabon Island in the Philippines, who depend on the ocean for their livelihood.
