We Did It Together
It was wonderful being led in our book group by a working-class Jewish woman. Mel’s love for learning about everything enabled me to read, and to read a book on a subject I would never have dared to read about. Mel led us with relaxed high expectations, and she wanted us to think.
As a working-class woman who struggles to read anything, it was challenging to read about economics. But it was just what I needed to read and then share my mind about, in a space where it was safe to show the humiliation.
We did it together. That’s what Mel is so good at—doing things with other people. And that’s what made it possible. I’m so proud of Mel for doing this group. It has given me so much hope.
