What to Do?
Dear Jewish sisters and brothers, worldwide,
My thanks to the Israelis who have written about what is happening in Israel and Palestine. I hope your voices continue to be heard on the RC e-mail discussion lists.
There is a lot to say about imperialism, the oppressor/oppressed policies and practices of the Israeli government, the racism toward the Palestinian people, and the historic role of anti-Jewish oppression.
But right now, the big issue for me is, what to do? What are the actions (including using what we know in RC) that can end the violence between Palestinians and Israelis (while recognizing the disproportionate taking of Palestinian life)? And what actions will create the conditions for longer-term solutions?
Analyses of the situation vary, and it is difficult to reach agreement. However, I think that more and more there is a gut-level [instinctive] understanding of the wrongness of the situation.
I’d like us to use this discussion list to share ideas and the proactive, pro-human actions we are taking.
We can use our Co-Counseling sessions to develop good ideas and figure out how to reach a variety of people.
