One of Our Greatest Challenges
In RC the term Direct Production Workers is used for that portion of the working class that is engaged in the direct production of goods and services. It is meant to distinguish between those of us who currently do working-class work and live working-class lives and those of us who were raised working class and now live middle- or owning-class lives.
The distinction is essential. It has made visible that only a small percent of the people in RC who identify, or are identified, as working class are currently doing working-class work and living working-class lives. Reaching for more Direct Production Workers is one of our greatest challenges, and we need to succeed at it to attain all our other goals.
