Thoughts from Tim
I Want You Back

From a Postal Worker

I work in the postal industry, which is like a barometer for what is happening with the economy. One of our strengths as postal workers is that we are in close contact with what is going on [happening].

There is a big surge in COVID-19 right now. This means that a lot of office workers (who can) are working from home. It’s unusually quiet at my workplace.

Near to where I work are construction workers, hotel concierges, laundry workers, bike couriers, delivery drivers, rail workers, and food workers. I spoke with a young adult woman who works in a café. She talked about how hard it is to survive on a work visa.

I like my workmates. They have been very generous to me. Yesterday they talked and talked about the disrespect they’ve received on their jobs over the years.

People are looking for connection. If I remember to pay attention and show interest and caring, people want to talk. A good thing about my job is that I can connect in my brief interactions with customers.
