Healing and Discharge
We can’t “cure” all conditions by discharging. However, discharge can greatly impact our healing. It can shift how distress is held in our bodies, which frees our bodies’ natural healing capacities—for example, by reducing inflammation. Discharging will also free our minds to make good medical decisions.
I’ve had to heal from multiple brain injuries. This involved lots of discharge on the injuries themselves, on what they restimulated, and on the hard work of rehabilitation. It involved making decisions about what therapies to try. To move forward, I also had to notice and grieve the losses and become at peace with them.
Whatever the injury or illness, I think we need to work consistently and early. This may mean fully noticing our bodies as they are. It may mean accepting disability or death.
