What I Have Learned as a Regional Reference Person
Regional Reference Persons are appointed by the International Reference Person. Their primary responsibility is the continued re-emergence of both existing and new leaders in their Region. —Ed.
As Regional Reference Person I have learned the following:
- That everyone hopes to be in contact with a “human factor” before anything else
- That things are better done in company, that we work more effectively and go farther and better in a group than we do as a couple or alone
- That it gives me great pleasure to wait at all the “rhythms,” without rushing or urgency
- That we are continually under the influence of loving, intelligent, and nurturing forces and that only distresses cloud this reality
- That I can bring people together and expect the best from them
- That I can communicate that I expect the best from them in both verbal and non-verbal ways
- That listening is effective
- That listening is also not enough—that to move certain difficulties, it is sometimes essential to inform, point out, indicate, and reference
- That contact is more important than work
- That keeping my word [doing what I say I’m going to do] offers a solid “structure” for any mind that wants to relate to me
- That not being successful can be just as important as being successful
- That giving comes before taking and that learning comes before teaching
- That some people believe in themselves because I am in this position
- That I feel lucky, grateful, and proud to have spent twenty-five years in this position
I have also learned the following:
- To see the reality of each person
- To love first before “asking for,” to accept before I understand, and to congratulate and thank before getting restimulated
- To stop giving all the time (part of my chronic Indigenous distress); to “ask for”
- To trust in life more than in my distresses
Thanks for believing in me.
