Teaching Zoom to RCers
I got involved with Zoom at the beginning of the COVID pandemic in my outside-of-RC work, and I’ve since taught Zoom to RCers.
At the beginning of my RC training sessions, I ask people to put a letter next to their name identifying their class background (raised poor, working class, middle class, owning class). I set up mini-sessions based on their class and suggest that they talk about issues related to their class that get in the way of doing tech. I share my Zoom screen when I’m setting up the breakout rooms so that I can show people how to do it. And I make everyone co-hosts so that they can experience that.
I also invite the raised-poor and working-class people to freely share with everyone what they are thinking and feeling. As a middle-class woman teaching tech, I find it useful to hear their feedback. It’s also useful for the owning-class and other middle-class participants to hear it.
