Woman to Man:

What You Look Like

When I'm Not Scared of You

When I'm not scared of you,
you look like a field of pansies,
soft and bright, fluttering
companionably in the breeze.

When I'm not scared of you,
you look like an ancient cedar,
deeply rooted, wise, strong, and good
wood to the innermost ring.

When I'm not scared of you,
I look into your eyes and see
the same innocence and joyful expectation
I saw in the eyes of my infant sons.

When I'm not scared of you,
you look like kin, and the world
around us is once again a garden
of possibility.
