Patriotism
Patriotism and the most vicious chauvinism are conditioned on the population (“Deutschland über alles!”). Members of all other nations are attacked and denigrated as inferior, while the members of one’s own nation are extolled as superior in every way.
This conditioning is very intense and depends on the invalidation of every person in every other way except their nationality. No man, no woman, no child, no member of any class, no member of any minority is ever allowed or encouraged to feel good about themself except in comparison to members of another group. Thus the only self-validation open to the person in the nation is the patriotic, chauvinist aggrandizement of one’s nationality.
The purpose of this is to prepare the entire population to support the launching of wars against other nations whenever special opportunities for super-profits or the looting of other countries beckon to the ruling class. Wars are always intensely profitable to the owning classes of countries, even those whose countries supposedly “lose.” Wars are always destructive of the resistance movements against exploitation in the countries which go to war.
