Elders Discharging on Disability
I recently led the northeast Connecticut, USA, elders’ support group on our feelings about possibly acquiring disabilities as we age. Our fears about that may be from our initial experiences with disabilities. We explored our first memories of disabled people and the information we’d acquired about disabilities.
I subsequently attended David Ruebain’s webinar on disabilities and climate. [David is the recently appointed International Liberation Reference Person for People with Disabilities.] He shared an idea that he introduced as revolutionary—that “impairment is normal.”
