A Wake-Up Call
Hours after it was leaked that the U.S. Supreme Court might end the constitutional right to abortion, I got a call from a young adult who relies on me for support.
In our many years together, with me being such a strong activist, she has never once expressed interest in engaging in political activism—until this week. She called me wanting to know where she and her friends should protest and what else they could do to defeat this assault on women’s rights.
I think many young adults have assumed that the battles for women’s rights and against sexism had already been won and they didn’t have to fight or put a lot of attention there. This week was a major wake-up call for many of them.
I think there are now new opportunities for intergenerational leadership in the fight against sexism and male domination.
