Elders and the Climate
I participated in an RC Women and the Climate Workshop and attended the topic group for elders, which was led by Jerry Yoder, the International Liberation Reference Person for Elders.
Jerry spoke about the disrespect for elders and how we are important in climate work. We have a lot to bring. She encouraged us to discharge on the early hurts that had come at us as girl children. We need to not give up, and that requires connection with other elders and deep discharge.
We broke into three-way sessions, and I, an African-heritage elder, chose two of the white women to be with me. I counseled them both.
As elders in the United States, we have a lot of power. If we stick together, we can affect policy on the climate emergency.
