An Early Community Experience
Thanks, Xabi, for your thinking about online teaching and people joining the RC Community [see the article “Fundamentals Students and the RC Community,” by Xabi Odriozola, the previous article in Present Time No. 205]. You talked about how our relationship with the RC Community can be affected by experiences of community in our early lives.
I had a good experience as a teen in a youth movement. We spent seven weeks of the summer in camp together, and the relationships were close; we were good friends. For me, RC is a kind of extension of that experience. RC workshops, particularly, remind me of the youth movement and camp. It makes me happy to be together, play, and be close to people.
We can encourage our students to discharge on “early community experiences” that might make it difficult for them to want to participate in the Community.
