Disability Leadership

Five thousand, seven hundred Japanese went to the International Women’s Forum in Beijing. My NGO group of thirty was called DPI—Network of Women with Disabilities. One-third of us were Co-Counselors with the No Limits delegation, so we had sessions and support groups during our stay.

My highlight was our workshop, “What Is the Eugenic Protection Law?” Five women with disabilities each took twenty minutes and told our life stories. All No Limits for Women Co-Counselors, we were not hesitant to share our tears with the over-one-hundred-person audience.

The other highlight was the Asian Women’s evening in our hotel in Beijing. This gathering was organized by Cheng Imm Tan, supported by Wuion and me. Our teamwork was flexible and smart. About thirty Asian women of unique and varied backgrounds shared our lives with tears and laughter. I had a dream here—that we have an International Asian Women’s Workshop.

I realized how intelligent and beautiful it is to share our feelings with all people and go beyond our differences. Let’s go to international conferences whenever possible and speak out to the world.
