Ten Ways to "Win"

Here are ten steps for winning that Gwen Brown listed and posted at a raised-poor workshop in May 1996 on the East Coast of the USA.

  1. Make sure you are in a Co-Counseling class.
  2. Make sure you have at least one good, dependable, weekly Co-Counselor.
  3. Think big. Decide what you want, and set a specific goal. (You are much bigger than any distress patterns you carry.)
  4. Get a really good picture that you can make it happen.
  5. Decide that you will make it happen.
  6. As you aim for winning, lots of old feelings will come up. Discharge a lot, more than once a week. (When we were small, we knew we deserved attention and needed to discharge.)
  7. Get any information you need. Ask for help.
  8. Act outside of discouragement.
  9. Keep discharging and acting. Stay close to your Co-Counselor, no matter how hopeless it feels.
  10. Win! (Keep discharging.)
