The
World Peace Forum, June 23-28, 2006 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, is
an international gathering of individuals, academics, social activists, groups
and civic governments from cities and communities around the world to envision
a living culture of peace and sustainability in our lifetimes.
Panels,
workshops, public forums, arts activities and networking events are planned to
offer all participants an opportunity for discussion and performance within the
Forum's main theme of "Cities
and Communities: Working Together to End War and Build a Peaceful, Just and
Sustainable World."
The World Peace Forum 2006 program will follow these four guiding
threads throughout the conference: Economy of Peace, Social Justice and Peace,
Environment and Peace, and Culture and Peace. Some of the sub-themes that will
be explored during the Forum are: global justice, women and peace, First
Nations, youth, racism and discrimination, sustainability, disarmament and peace
education.
The
United to End Racism (UER) project of the Re-evaluation Counseling Communities
is sending a twenty-one person delegation to the Forum under the title United
to End Racism: Healing from War, Working for Peace. At the Forum we will hold
short workshops, lead panels for Forum participants to talk about their
experiences with war and making peace, offer support groups, and share our
knowledge, experience, and practice of the tools of Re-evaluation Counseling
with the individuals and organizations we meet.
The
UER workshops will be held throughout the Forum, and will be on the themes of
Healing From War, Healing the Damage Caused by Racism, Building Alliances
Across National Lines, Building Alliances Between Jewish and Gentile Activists,
and Veterans and Allies in the Peace Movement. A schedule and description of these workshops can be found
at http://rc.org/uer/UERWPFWorkshops.html.
A
fundraising campaign has been undertaken to support the UER project at the
World Peace Forum 2006. A t-shirt
design has been created with the theme United to End Racism: Healing from
War, Working for Peace. Here are the English and French language versions.
