(26) Proposal: Workshops

That workshops be organized on International, Regional, Area and Class levels. That teachers encourage students to attend workshops at the level for which they are ready.

That our goal in workshops is to bring together as great a variety of people of different backgrounds as possible (unless the topic of the workshop is itself self-limiting), as a practical step toward the unity of all humankind, rather than bringing together only people who are easily comfortable and familiar with each other.

That there be one free place for young people for every twenty fee-paying adults.

That meeting places for workshops be accessible and comfortable for people with various disabilities (for example, that they be wheelchair accessible for people with mobility disabilities, that they have microphone loop systems or sign language interpreters for people with hearing difficulties, that there be support persons assigned for people with vision difficulties, etc., etc.).

That such accessibility become a requirement for our workshops, and where such locations are not available, that the Communities take the initiative in making them so accessible, conferring with the people in charge of the location and making contributions of money and physical labor necessary to achieve such results.

That this be our goal and our standard rather than settling for any limited accessibility.

Reason

The workshop format has proven very effective for the growth of both individuals and Communities.

Our workshops benefit from having all varieties of people. They need to offer a broad vista for human living.

(33) Proposal: Workshops

That workshops be organized both with skilled teachers in charge and also on a cooperative basis (with a responsible person in charge), where experienced members rotate to chair discussion-and-report sessions and where a rotating schedule for Co-Counseling is set up ahead of time. That all workshops be planned and coordinated with the available Reference Person.

Reason

Many kinds of workshops are very workable. The more skilled the teachers available, the more is likely to be accomplished. Short cooperative workshops have proven very helpful. Lack of skilled teachers in a new locality should not prevent such workshops from being organized. Where they have been attempted on a one-day, two-day, or weekend basis, they have been very successful. The resources of the available Reference Persons and leadership groups should be utilized and each workshop coordinated with the overall Community's activities.

(27) Proposal: Workshops - International

That workshops organized on the International level be planned toward the development of new leaders and teachers from every section of the population. That International workshops be encouraged for specific Wygelian (commonality of oppression, occupation, or interest) groups of people as soon as their numbers can justify the expense, as well as workshops for general re-emergence, liberation and taking charge.

Reason

The development of the Re-evaluation Counseling Community will require people who will think about the Community as a whole, rather than just as an activity in which individuals are participating. The International workshops are organized to fulfill this need.

(28) Proposal: Workshops - Regional

That Regional workshops (workshops which are designed to embrace Co-Counselors from two or more Areas) be organized only with the prior approval of the International Reference Person. That the leadership of such workshops be chosen in consultation with the International Reference Person. The International Reference Person may delegate such approval and consultation to the Regional Reference Person.

Reason

Consultation with the International Reference Person on organization and choosing the leadership of Regional workshops will tend to the better use of these workshops and the existing leadership.

(29) Proposal: Workshops - Area

That workshops on an Area level be planned in cooperation and consultation with the Area Reference Person. That Area workshops be primarily for Co-Counselors from the particular Area, with only incidental attendance by Co-Counselors from other Areas. Teachers wishing to or requested to lead workshops outside their own Areas should consult with and receive the approval of the International Reference Person before doing so. The International Reference Person may delegate such consultation and approval to the Regional Reference Person for workshops within a particular Region.

Reason

Area leadership has the primary responsibility to work with the Co-Counselors in their own Area, to build their own Communities, rather than being host at workshops to visiting Co-Counselors from other Areas or conducting workshops in other Areas.

(30) Proposal: Workshops - Class

That teachers of Re-evaluation Counseling within Organized Areas who organize workshops for members of their own classes discuss their plans and formats for the workshops with the Area Reference Person and secure general agreement on how they are to be conducted before going ahead with the workshops. That teachers who wish to include students from other teachers' classes or other Co-Counselors in their class workshop clear such plans with the Area Reference Person ahead of time.

Reason

Such consultation will avoid unnecessary mistakes in the conduct of workshops and will respect each teacher's responsibility for his or her class members.

(31) Proposal: International Teachers' Workshops

That there be at least one International Teachers' Workshop held each year in each geographical region having a sufficient number of teachers. Alternatively, several geographical Regions may combine to sponsor such a teachers' workshop.

Reason

In the development of Re-evaluation Counseling Communities, Re-evaluation Counseling teachers need to share their experiences and knowledge. The workshop format offers an excellent possibility for such exchange.

(32) Proposal: International Liberation Workshops

That we attempt to have at least one International Liberation Leaders' Workshop each year for leaders of each liberation constituency having a sufficient number of such leaders.

Reason

Such workshops are no substitute for local liberation activity, but offer excellent possibilities for exchange of information and coordination between local and international liberation leaders.
